Alarm bells sounded in the heads of some DC residents on Monday, March 27, where there was an odor of smoke emanating throughout the region for unknown reasons.

According to officials, the source of the haze is not in the DC area, and may be associated with a wildfire in eastern North Carolina that is brought into the region by windy conditions.

Officials pointed to a reported 5,200-acre wildfire in neighboring North Carolina.

There have been reports of the odor and smoke throughout the DMV region, though there is no cause for alarm, they noted.

The incident remains under investigation in the area. Check Daily Voice for updates.
